How to compare the top marketing agencies in Pune
Search 'best marketing agency in Pune' and you get listicles, most of them paid placements. Five checks that actually separate the good from the loud.
Type 'best digital marketing agency in Pune' into Google and almost everything on page one is a list: top 10, top 15, top 23. Very few of those results are agencies. They are directories and blog posts, and understanding how they are built tells you how little they are worth.
Why those rankings are not rankings
- Directory sites typically charge for placement or for a 'verified' badge. Position correlates with spend, not performance.
- 'Top 10' blog posts are usually written by an agency that has placed itself at number one. Check the domain against the first entry; they match more often than you would think.
- Almost none of them verify a single result claim. No one asks the agencies for account access before publishing.
Five checks that actually separate agencies
- Ask for a screenshot from a live ad account, with the date range visible. Not a case study slide. A real Ads Manager view shows spend, cost per result and the days nothing happened.
- Ask who will actually run the account. In small agencies the person on the sales call is often the person doing the work, which is good. In larger ones it rarely is. Ask for the name.
- Ask about a campaign that failed and what they changed. An agency that has never had a bad month has either not run many accounts or is not telling you the truth.
- Ask about contract length and notice period. Month-to-month signals confidence; a twelve-month lock-in signals the opposite.
- Ask who owns the ad account, the pixel and the data. This one matters more than the other four combined.
The ad account question, in detail
If the agency runs your campaigns inside their own Business Manager, then your conversion history, your audiences and your pixel data belong to them. Leave, and you start from zero, the new agency inherits nothing, and the learning phase begins again on your money.
The correct arrangement is simple: you own the Google Ads account and the Meta Business Manager, and you grant the agency partner access. It takes ten minutes to set up and it is the single biggest piece of leverage you will ever have in the relationship.
What a useful first call sounds like
- They ask what a customer is worth to you before they talk about budget.
- They ask what happens to a lead after it arrives, who calls, how fast, from what number.
- They tell you a number you did not want to hear, early.
- They are willing to say your industry is not one they know well.
